League Merger FAQ

Scott Morello

North Reading Youth Hockey (NRYH) and Stoneham Youth Hockey (SYH) have agreed to begin the process to combine our organizations.  As both organizations have faced decreased enrollment over the past few years, we have looked for opportunities to remain a competitive, affordable, local organization.  The NRYH and SYH organizations share similar philosophies to offer a fun, challenging and rewarding hockey experience for our families - which stressing player development.  The process is expected to take place over two seasons, beginning with the 2020-2021 season.

The first step in this combination is already underway at the Squirt and Peewee levels.  Players will be placed on teams which will be leveled with similarly skilled players.

Next season we will continue the process by combining the rest of our levels and teaching programs.  While there are many things to still work out, we (the NRYH Board of Directors and SYH Board of Directors) feel this is an excellent next step for our players and families.

This merger does not affect our high-school teams as we are a completely separate organization within North Reading.
